Terrible Day today

HI,
I thought things would settle down after my mom died. But it hasn't, my dad's health is getting worse. He had a stroke tonight, called me and I couldn't understand anything he said, we rushed down to his house and I could tell right away it was a stroke, his mouth was drawn to one side and very weak. He has been wanting to die since my mom passed away, he doesn't want to live without her. So I don't know how he will handle this..He was so upset they let me ride in the back of the rescue unit with him. I don't know what I will do if he is unable to live by himself. My house is so small, and I can't even think of a nursing home. Not sure what to do. Hopefully somehow he will come out of this. Please keep him in your prayers. Thanks for listening.

  5. Hello. This is my first time posting a comment here. I just wanted to let you know how sorry I am to hear that you are having to face so many difficulties at one time. Life can be overwhelming.

I also wanted to encourage you to reach out for help during this time. I previously worked with senior citizens, so I wanted to assure you that there services available to assist you and your father. It may be work to find them, but it is usually worth the effort. The hospital your father is at should have a social worker on staff to help you. I will warn you that they are usually very busy though, and you may have to push to get them to do their job. I would also encourage you to contact your Area Agency on Aging. The programs they have vary by region, so I can not guarantee what they have. You should try to find out if your community has a Senior Center as well. These facilities often have programs available to help keep senior citizens in their homes as long as possible. Each center is different, so you will not know what is available until you contact them.

I hope these suggestions help. Best of luck to you and your father.
