My Dad

My dad is still hanging in there, we had him transferred home for hospice home care. He was able to stay home only day. We couldn't control him, he was getting confused and aggressive, the meds weren't calming him down, he wouldn't stay in bed, he kept getting up and kind of combative. They said this was one of the stages.
So we transferred him back to Haven Hospice care center, and he was alright for a few hours, and we went ahead and went home. At 9:30 that evening, we were called back, he was out of control and the meds were not working on him. It was Sunday, so they had to wait for the doctor to come the next morning to increase the medicine or some other med. He would take the medicine and would sit and groan and cry out I'M DYING, help me LORD. Then he would say let me up, they are killing me. We couldn't let him up, was afraid he would fall. But we had to stay, because every two hours, the meds would completely where off and it would all start again. It was a long night. Then he woke up this morning, kind of confused and didn't respond to us,it took about an hour for him to answer us. He looked so sad and fragile sitting there. I have never seen him like that. It breaks my heart, because I told him we were going to take him home in a few days, but we are unable because of teh outbursts, can't handle that by ourselves.
They gave him new medication and he sleeps most of the time now, which I hate, but the alternative is fighting with him to keep him in bed, he wants to stand and walk and doesn't understand why he can't. He said he didn't know why I was treating him this way. It hurt, even though I understand he doesn't know what he is saying. But he is angry. This is tearing my sister and I up. It is so much easier on us to see him just resting peacefully, but the question is should he be drugged during his final days. I know it is easier on him also, but it is so hard to see such a strong man reduced to this. I walked around his house today, started crying, because he will never come home. They said it is a matter of days, or could be a week no one can predict it. I only hope it comes quickly and peacefully. After losing my mom 5 months ago on April 1st. We are all wondering it will be on the 1st, exactly 5 months after she passed that he will go.
So I am planning on spending most of the next 2 days there, mostly by myself as my sister has chemo treatment, and my husband and daughter are working and she has college classes that just started, so it is going to be hard to deal with on my own.
So, just wanted to update everyone on his progess. Thanks for all the prayers and kind emails.

Up and downs with Dad

Well, contrary to what the doctors said, he is still hanging in there. They said he wouldn't last 2 days. But today, he did manage to stand and sit on the edge of the bed. We took him home today, hospice has come in, but nobody is sure how long it may be.. The sad part is he may linger like this for awhile now, we all made peace with the knowing the end was in site. Now, we have to wait and see what happens. He is talking out of his head, sees things that are not there. But his vital signs have stabilized, everyone is amazed he is still alive. But they see signs that are suggesting he may not live much longer, but evidently he is a very strong man. He stills say he doesnt want to live, but for some reason he keeps holding on. The doctors said they are really surprised, but it may be the high before the end. So the hard part now is the non-stop staying around the clock with him at his house, trying to find time for everyday things, life, our own families and being with him when he needs us. I know he is ready, he hasn't taken his normal heart medicine for 3 days now, so they say he will fill up with fluid in his lungs again. but at least we have hospice for now and they are such a relief, because they make it so much easier and are so helpful. So please keep praying for us and a peaceful ending.

My Dad is dying

What a terrible day, I woke up to a phone call that my dad had been taken to the local hospital emergency room. He was in cardiac arrest. When I got there, he had tubes down his nose and throat, helping him breathe. They almost lost him at the hospital then. They transported him to a larger hospital, kept the tubes in.
He was half awake, kept pulling at the tubes and crying. His eyes wouldn't blink and his eyes are very glassy. I asked him to nod if he wanted the tubes out, he said yes. I knew he had a living will and had expressed quite firmly he did not want to be hooked up to tubes and kept alive.
The doctors had a conference, my sister and I had to decide what to do, what a horrrible thing to have to decide if you want your dad to live on the tubes or die if the tubes are taken out. I asked the doctor to stop the drugs to where he would be more lucid and she was able to talk to him and ask him if he wanted the tubes out. He said yes, he wanted them out and no more medicine.
So they took them out, he was awake and talking kept saying he didn't feel good, then his stomach started paining him really bad and they gave him some medicine, then he went to sleep. My husband and I went home for a little bit and my sister called and said they had put him in a small room, off by itself. That he became kind of violent, pulling at his clothes and yelling, out of his head. He didn't know her. So they are going to keep him sedated on morphine till the end.
I know I said to myself that he was just getting worse, maybe it would be better for him to just go to sleep and not wake up. And now he is doing just that, and I feel so guilty, telling the doctors about his living will and his not wanting to live anymore. But my sister agreed with me, that this is what he wanted, but it doesn't make it any easier to deal with. His doctor this past week had told him not to do any exercise, not to play pool or even walk around anymore than he had to. So after that, he kept saying I guess I am lot worse than I thought I was. So he knew in his heart he didn't have much time left. So please keep usin your prayers.

Today, I got 3 of my lightboxes made. This is from a You are Special pattern called Christmas Blessings. I had 3 old sewing machine drawers that I used for this. In the original pattern, I used the 5 lb. kraft cheese boxes, but those have gotten so expensive to buy. I bought a bunch of the electric candle lights from craftwholesalers.com . This year, I am going to buy a bunch of those dollar store lights that are $1.00. Another crafter shared the idea of cutting off the tube of the candle tube, and making it shorter. She just said she used a jigsaw to cut it.
I had to put my pattern sharebox at the bottom, for some reason it stopped showing up on the side, so I reloaded a different version of it and it all the way down.
I only have 2 scarecrows to make now and I am finished with orders. I am taking a break from working on orders and making some things I want to make right now. I have written up the pattern for the Santa's Sleigh ride and it will be on my website as soon as my webmaster can get it on. If you wish to purchase it now, put a buy it now button on it side to purchase with paypal.

Sock Monkeys and Jar lights

Well, my jar candlelights came and I got some of these made this weekend. I put an old label on half of them and the other half I am just adding a prim tag with bow. I filled some of them with pinto beans and black beans, the others I used rosehips, cinnamon sticks, pumpkin pods and some orange peel. I have some bigger canning jars I am going to get done this week, with more labels. I think I like the labels better than the plain ones. I am going to add Sweet Annie to the jars right before the show.

here is a closeup of some of the jar lamps.

My friend Becky from Orlando was visiting, her husband works at Disney World, so guess what, we get free tickets. She came over and wanted to make a sock monkey for her little grandson's first birthday. I made one at the same time. It was a race to the finish, to see who could finish first. No contest, my little monkey was done and sitting beside her on the couch waiting while she stitched up her monkey and stuffed him. We had lots of fun just talking and catching up, we hadn't really seen each other since last October. She made me the neatest little quilted coasters, and brought me some stuffing forks for a belated birthday present.

Becky is working on a Florida Gator quilt for my daughter, but while she is getting it made, she made my daughter a pillow case from Gator fabric. We joked and said all we need to do is cut a neck hole and couple of arm holes and she has a new dress to wear. Samantha loved it of course. Becky does the best quilts and makes handmades for the all the gifts she gives out for birthdays, Christmas and anything else that comes along. She has quite a list going on.

Raggedy's, cat and more pictures

Hi,
I managed to get the rest of my framed pictures made. I waiting on the rest of frames for some neat chicken border paper I have. If anyone needs any frames, Carmen's husband Phillip, will make them, he makes them with or without the backing. You can contact them at oldefarmhouse@windstream.net . This particular wallpaper border is one of my favorites, always one the first to sell.
Next I got a couple of Annie dolls made, these are from my You are Special pattern line. This one is called #290 Annie's Memories. I have got a few more sitting there to be finished. Today was nice and sunny and I took advantage of it and layed a bunch of things out to dry after I sprayed them with stain mixture.
I found these two cats in my t0-d0 bag of half finished projects. All I had to do was pinch the nose on one and paint them black. I made a little jute collar with tag that reads CAT. Black cats always sell well for me

More Pillows and Pictures

Wow, can't believe it has been 3 since I last posted, where does the time go. I have been so busy trying to finish those scarecrows. My husband finally got a chance to make a backing for the frames I had bought from Carmen's husband, today. He cut over 40 backs for frames today. He was out there early this morning, I woke up to the sound of the saw. I still have several more to paint and put the picture in. It started thunderstorming after I start painting and had to rush everything in the house. I would have had them all done except for the weather today. These have always been good sellers for me, I buy the wallpaper border paper and cut at the repeat. You can anywhere from 8-10 from a roll of border paper. I have found some great deals on ebay lately for the paper.

I printed some feedsack prints off on my muslin again. These are more a vintage type of feedsack. I really like these. I stuff them with sawdust and they have a nice weight to them.

Today was like Christmas, I got two packages from UPS. I had a bunch of fragrance oil ordered and I got my candlelight kits for the jar lamps. Should be able to start on them this weekend. My friend Becky from Orlando is in town. She is coming over to have me help her make a sock monkey for little grandson. She had bought the kit up in the mountains. It has been awhile since I made one. I had a set of socks around here, I need to dig out and make one for myself.
I had a nice talk with Deb (Crows on the Cupola) she called me today and sounds like a very sweet person. It was nice talking with her. We talked about shows, crafting and life with parents and in-laws. She said it was in the 60's up there in Minnesota. It was so hot here today that everything I painted, dried in 5 minutes or less. That is the only good part of the hot weather we have.

Finished Scarecrows and Wreaths

Hi,
I finally got my scarecrow heads done, they have been cut out and waiting for a few days now. But they are done and now I can move on to something else. I still have 2 dolls to make for an order and after that, I can get back to making some different patterns for my shows.
For everyone that has emailed about the Santa's Sleigh light box pattern, I will be getting it on my site in a few days. I ran out of paper for my copy machine and lines are forming on the copies, so having to have it looked at. But by the end of the week, it should be ready to go.
I had an unexpected visitor today. I was sitting on the computer ordering paper for my copy machine, and hear someone knocking at the door and it was CARMEN. She had to take her husband back for more tests at the hospital about 30 minutes away and she paid me a surprise visit. Hopefully one of these days, she will be coming to spend a couple of days with me, we used to have so much fun, making candles, spending way too money and stitching together, when she could come and stay for a few days. I am trying to talk her into helping me at my Thanksgiving show.

I had an order from a lady in Canada for three of my wreaths, finally got them all finished up, I need to find a box and see how much the shipping will be. I was able to get a couple of extra wreaths finished for me when I made these. Last year, wreaths sold really well for me, I hadn't been making them for several years and tried them again and couldn't keep them in stock.

I was able to get my candlelights ordered for my jar lamps today, they are being delivered on the 20th. Can't wait to get them, they make up so fast and always sell well for me. I will post some pictures of them as soon as they are completed.

New Santa light box pattern and pillows

Well, last night I was up till 3:30, I got an idea for a pattern and couldn't go to till I drew it out. I was able to get it finished today. I am calling this one Santa's Sleigh. It is in a wooden sewing machine drawer. I have put a candlelight in the middle, Santa on one side and 2 of Santa's reindeers on the other side. Filled it with a bunch of greenery, berries and wood candy canes. I have to say, even my husband liked this one. Usually I show him something and says "Yeah", whatever that means. But he said he really liked this one. So going to get this one wrote up this weekend and have it on my website in the next few days.

My daughter has been busy making those stitchery pillows up for me, I think she is trying to make money. Probably to help with moving out, but what is a Mom to do, but be sad and deal with it. She really did a good job on these.

I drew up the pattern for the dress that was on last nights blog, if you are interested, it is in the sharebox on the side. Hopefully it will all come out the right size. Still haven't figured out what I am doing wrong there.
But back to work, and need to get more scarecrows done, had some more orders today. So I guess I had better get to work.

The Winner of this weeks giveaway, Fall pumpkins and Prim Dress

Hi everyone,
The Winner of this giveaway is Prim Angel. I had quite a few names to pull from this time. Thanks to everyone who entered and I wish all could win. So if you read this Prim Angel, send me your address and I will get this right out to you.
Well, today, didn't get much done. I had to go down to my dad's house and rearrange furniture, the pool table will be delivered next week and where he wanted to put it wasn't a big enough area. So we had to switch 3 rooms of furniture. Took over 2 hours to get it done. Now just waiting for the pool table to come.
I did manage to get a few of the pumpkins done from a pattern by www.myprimitivesaltbox.com for some of the cutest prim pumpkins. They are very easy to make. Just had to wait for them to dry, it started raining and I like to finish everything once I start and not wait. So these ended up in the microwave for a few seconds to finish drying them.

I love making the dresses, I have had this gingerbread print laying around for I don't know how many years. I am still trying to use up my scraps of fabric this year. It went perfectly with the dark red fabric that I only had a small piece of left. I am going to post the pattern for this tomorrow in the share box. I used a cut off dowel for the hanger and some wire twisted for the wire hanger part.

Hope to get more done tomorrow. My husband is working on the cars, my daughter will be gone again and so should have a lot of free time tomorrow. So hopefully something new I got finished to post tomorrow night.

Free Stocking pattern added and Annie dolls

Well, I did manage to get the stocking patterns drawn out, I added a smaller version. You will find them in the share box on the side. I also included some of the graphics I used on the stockings. I printed my graphics on muslin that had the freezer pattern ironed to it. I just ran it through my printer. Remember if you are using the transfer paper, you will need to reverse the image.
I finished up 3 of my Candy Cane Annie dolls today. I have 5 more i need to sew up and get done. Hope to have lots of Raggedy Ann dolls done this year. I took advantage of the 95 degrees plus we had today and sprayed them down with coffee/water mixture and let the sun dry them for me, it only took a little bit of time.
I feel a little bit sad tonight, my daughter is starting to make noises about moving out, she is 19. She is my only child. I feel real teary-eyed tonight. I just can't imagine her not being here every night. Not knowing if she made it home at night safely. At that age they think they are invincible. I just hope it is all talk right now, I know it is going to happen some time soon, but I don't want my baby to grow up. Time is just going so fast. I don't get to spend enough time with her now, she works 40 hours plus a week, plus has a boyfriend and lots of friends. She is not home much now as it is. But I treasure the time when she is home. Now I know how my parents felt when I left home.

These are a smaller version of the larger stocking. I haven't got these quite finished yet. I still need to add the jute hanger and jute bow w/ jingle bell to the front of them.

Stockings and Giveaway

Hi,
I have not been able to post for a couple of days, don't know where the time has gone. I am still working on scarecrows and dolls for a couple of orders. Trying to get all my finished orders done, so I can start back on show stuff.
I did get some more red ticking stockings done. I wanted to put a vintage image on the stockings, and I like the way it turned out. If any one is interested in the stocking pattern, just let me know and I will get it posted. I just used vintage images I collected in the past. I think this will be one of the quick and easy projects that don't take a lot of time to make, and won't cost a lot for people to buy this year at the shows.
On these stockings I used the freezer paper sheets and ironed my muslin onto it. Then printed the designs onto my muslin using my printer. I cut the images out with some room around each one, peeled off the freezer paper, and ironed on heat 'n' bond on the back of each one. Then cut out the images, peeled the backing off again and ironed them to the stockings. I used black embroidery floss and went around each one with a primitive stitch. Add a jute tie and hanger and rusty jingle bell with prim tag.
I found that I had one more of the Crow Shutters that I am offering in a giveaway this week. If you want to enter the giveaway, just leave me a commet. I will draw a name on Friday.
Well, my husband and I took my dad to look for a pool table. He found one, a little more expensive than I think he needed, but he wanted it. So he went ahead and paid for it and it should be delivered next week. He seemed really happy with it. I was talking with his doctor yesterday and she told me that his heart was only pumping at 20% capacity and she thought that hospice would come in and help him out, even though he is not terminal. She said she was going to talk to him about it, It sure would be great if they would send a nurse and someone to sit with him some. He gets so lonesome, which is bad for his depression. But hopefully this pool table will get him up and moving around. Some friends from his church are going to take him to Sam's tomorrow. Hope he will be able get out and enjoy himself.
Well, hopefully I can back to posting more often, as things are finally getting caught up again.
Check back for pics of some stars I am working on. Trying to make things that are fast and easy.

Made some Crows todays

I managed to get some Crow make do's done today. These are made from a pattern by Walnut Ridge Primitives. Very easy and fast to make up. I am able to get my bobbins at the MacIntosh show every year from an antique vendor and luckily he only charges $1.00 each, he always has the neatest things in his booth. I buy my wood crates from him also.

I have 5 more of this bagholder ready to sew up, they are all cut out and ready to sew. Just had time to finish this one. It is from a pattern by Sweet Meadows Farms. I used a feedsack print from ewe and me printables.

Well, my dad hasn't found his pool table yet, they didn't have any in stock at the place he checked. But he is selling alot of things off, furniture and such, to make room for his pool table.
His doctor called him today and ask him to tell me to call her tomorrow. I am a little worried why she wants me to call her. My dad thinks she wants to put him back in the hospital to check him out. But he says no way am I going again. So I think the only way to get him back is when something major happens. But in a way I can't blame him. I would be sick of the hospital also.
So hoping his pool table will be something to look forward to for him. He has a nephew, who coming to visit him in September, so hopefully he will be well enough to visit with them. Well lots of pattern orders to get done. Back to work.

No crafting, puppy woes, and races

Hi,
Well it has been a busy couple of days, I didn't get do any crafting at all. A friend called me and wanted to go fabric and craft shopping. Of course, I said YES. Apparently there has been a Hobby Lobby here for a couple of years and I didn't even know it. Well we went, and I spent way too much, so much Fall and Christmas out, I couldn't resist buying. Then we went to Joann's fabrics, luckily this is one of their bigger stores ,and Yes, I bought more fabric. We ate at the China buffet, one of the best chinese restuarants in our area. We ate way tooooo much again. Finally got to go to the new AC More store, but was very disappointed in it, won't go there again. But it was nice to get out for the day, Linda and I hardly ever get to spend much time together, and when we do get together it is always alot of fun.

The Puppy has turned into a monster, just like I told my daughter she would. Samantha named her puppy Hurley. She has grown so much, she almost the same size as my grown dog. She is like a horse running through the house. We have to make sure everything is put up, or you guessed it she chews it up. I found one of my mouse ornaments, without ears. Paintbrushes are chewed up,marking pens you name it if she can reach it, it's hers. But she finally really got in trouble when she chewed up a pair of my daughter's shoes. Not so funny now. Now we have discipline the dog, so she won't destroy the house.

My daughter put some peanut butter on her nose and she is trying to lick it off.

She was so little just a couple of months ago. She is hard to lift up anymore. She has learned she can jump on the bed and couch now without even trying. Nothing like an early morning bounce on top of you to wake up and a wet tongue and doggy breath in your face.

I spend today with my husband Todd, he was in a race. It started yesterday, they ran on the beach, then another location this morning downtown somewhere, and this afternoon they had their final race at the Jacksonville Landing. Poor Todd, he knew he was in trouble when the guy pushing the stroller, passed him at the first corner. He came in 3rd and 4th from the last in the his first two races. So he is hoping after they get the stats up for the third race, he will be up alittle further on the list, instead of near the very end in his age group. But at least he was able to run all three races and get his medal for finishing. I wish he had someone to run with, but I would be out of breath after a few steps. It was so hot out there today. It is amazing watching some of these guys in their 80's running and finishing the race. They are in better shape than I am.

Start of the race, he is in there somewhere.

The Jacksonville Landing ,Downtown Jacksonville Florida

Tomorrow, hopefully get some more crafting done, I have to finish up some scarecrows and get started on some more fall items. So hopefully have some more pics to share with you tomorrow and our next giveaway.

More dolls and beeswax ornaments today

I was able to get some more dolls finished today, this is one my older patterns called #247 Holiday Annie pattern from the http://www.youarespecialpatterns.com/ line. I make a few of her every year and she is always one of the first to leave the booth. These I don't prim up a lot, just stained them lightly. These seem to sell better being cutesy rather than primitive.

This is a closeup of Holiday Annie, she is big and stocky doll.

I played around with my beeswax again last night and today, I made some little tea light holders, a Santa and an Angel. I place them on a little rusty plate and add some rosehips and cinnamon. I include an extra battery with the set, as people always worry what battery to replace it with. when the other one burns out.

These are my absolute fvorite this year. Can't wait to have a tree full of them. I think they are going to look so prim.

I got quite a few gingerbread people made. This mold sets up in just 30 minutes. So it doesn't take much time to get a bunch of these done . Plus I set mine in the freezer for about 10 minutes to help them set faster.

also made quite a few Santas, I love these old looking Santas. I am going to have to order more beeswax as this bag is about empty now.

Alot of you have emailed about my soap, It is $3.00 a bar or 2/$5.00 plus priority shipping of $4.90. I can get 4 bars into a small box easily. If you are interested just send me an email.
Also had a couple ask about the directions, so here they are:

Brown Sugar and Oatmeal Soap.
2 pounds soap base ( I used goat's milk and oatmeal) melt and pour
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 vanilla extract
1/3 cup dry cinnamon (or more if you want darker soap)
1/2 cup oatmeal

Melt the soap and then add ingredients. Mix well, you can scent this if desired. Pour into mold and let set. If you want a prim looking soap, sprinkle dry cinnamon in the bottom of the mold, but not too much. After it sets up, rub more dry cinnamon into soap for a grungy look.
this is an easy recipe, You can add fragrance if you want, add more or less spices. I use instant coffee granules for coloring. You can also use cocoa for coloring. There is right way or wrong way to make it, just add what you want in spices.

I also had some ask about the witches heads, I will putting so more of the beeswax ornies on my website in a couple of days, so please check it for availability. Working on trying to get a good supply made up in advance.

Wednesday, August 5, 2009

Hi,
I actually got a little more done today. I made over 50 bars of soap today. Here is a picture of some of them. I still need to rub the cinnamon on them. This is the oatmeal and goat's milk soap that i made last year.

closeup of the soap, Fall Scarecrow, Witch's boot, saltbox house, Little annie and at the bottom is the Guardian Angel. I also did one that says Peace on Earth.

I worked on getting my beeswax Witches done today. I am going to sell them in a bowl with rosehips, cinnamon sticks, putka pods and the witches. I am just to scent this with a strong Red Hot Cinnamon scent. Cinnamon always seem to sell.

Next I made the full bodied Witches from beeswax, I love this mold, it is one of my favorites.

closeup of Witches.

I am still working on Scarecrows and have some out drying, need to go ahead and bring them in. I will have 5 of them done now. Still have a couple of more for orders to get done, then I can start on my show inventory. I am going to work on one of my Holiday Annies tonight, I had an order from a customer for her. I made a few of her last year. It is funny, I hardly ever make my patterns, and then when I do, I wonder why I haven't been. I guess I just like to make something different from my own.

More Scarecrows

Well, by the picture, you can see what I have been working on today. Scarecrows, this is from my Hank pattern that is featured in the newest Country Sampler issue. I have 10 bodies, three are now completely done and ready to be mailed tomorrow. I know I shouldn't advertise finished items this close to show time, but I did and now I am making a ton of scarecrows for orders. Orders have really picked up with this issue of the magazine, so hoping that is a good sign for the upcoming shows and such.
Right now, we are trying to find a trailer, it would be cheaper to buy one than to continue to rent a u-haul every year. That gets expensive and we could have one paid for with the rental prices in a just a couple of years. My husband is a Craig's list fan, so has been avidly looking for one on there. He recently bought a troy built chipper and loves to go outside and cut down the shrubs and chip them up.

Well, here is an update on my dad, he is still hanging in there. Grumpy and miserable a lot of the time, missing my mom and so tired of not feeling good. It is like they changed places. Before she died and she did was lay in the bed, now all he does is sit in his chair, and just like her, watches TV all the time. Says he doesn't feel like doing anything, has to have his oxygen hooked up alot of the time. But he is looking forward to his Doctor's appointment tomorrow. A friend is taking him down there, he wants to go out and eat afterwards and has his heart set on looking for a pool table at Sears. I don't know if he will ever use it, but he has always wanted one. So I guess, why not, it is only money. I would rather he get some enjoyment out of life, instead of brooding all the time. He did finally hire a lady to come to his house twice a week and house clean. She does a great job. He has always been messy, but now is much worse. Plus it gives him someone else to talk to, she has rearranged his living room and straightend alot of things up.
Tomorrow, hope to be doing some soap and making more beeswax items. Time is drawing close for the first show. Not enough hours in the day.

Scarecrows in the making and new fabric

Hi everybody,

I had heard that Walmart had their Fall fabrics in and some of their Christmas fabrics, so went shopping today with my daughter, Samantha. She actually wanted to go, usually she goes the other way if I mention fabric shopping. She got a gallon of paint to repaint her room for the third time this year. Finally listening to what I wanted her to do in the first place, paint it off white, she first did the lime green, then the dark park, now back to normal I hope.
The Walmart I went to, did not have a great selection but they had some. Somehow, I managed to buy about 30 yards of these colors. They really had some pretty Fall fabrics, wanted more, but had to restrain myself.

The ad in Country Sampler is doing so well, I have been busy making scarecrows. I am in the process of making Preston, he is just the head, but ran out of raffia, so that was on the list today. I can now put hair on the bald heads. Still have to distress them a little more. But supposed to be sunny tomorrow. So try to get them ready for then.

This is what the finished version will look like when done.

Here a couple of techniques you might be interested in:

For candle jars: Cinnamon and water based polyurathane. First you will need to coat the jar with polyurethane then sprinkle ground cinnamon all over the jar.Set the jar out in the hot and let dry. glass!and non You can also use modge podge instead of the water based poly. If you want it to look like it has been baked , you will need to put a second coat on with the poly or modge podge, lastly sprinkle more dry cinnamon on.

RUSTING RECIPE

Ingredients:
½ apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup bleach
3 tablespoons of salt

Mix ingredient together in a container. Soak items that you want rusted in this solution until they have reached the desired look. This is great for rusting your safety pins and jingle bells. Lay them out and let dry thoroughtly. I like to do this on a real hot day.

Bottlecaps:
When I do my bottlecap ornaments, instead of trying to rust them in the vinegar and bleach, I go to Walmart and buy the rust colored paint and spray paint them. So much easier than waiting for them to rust.
